Global Youth Campus Hosts Summer BBQ

On July 17, the International Plaza at Kumamoto University hosted 38 junior high school students and 4 international students from Kumamoto University for English conversation, games and a barbeque event.  The event was co-organized by the Junior High School Attached to Kumamoto University and the Center for Open Education’s Kumadai Global Youth Campus Program.

 

Participants first enjoyed English yoga, followed by English conversation about cultural customs and simple games from around the world.  Finally, participants enjoyed a barbeque at Kumamoto University’s International Plaza.

 

The Global Youth Campus Program at Kumamoto University’s Center for Open Education aims to increase cross-cultural awareness and understanding within the local community by providing opportunities for direct communication and interaction with international students.

OPEN COLLEGE : Demo lessons for Terms 3 and 4

 

 

**The College of Cross Cultural and Multidisciplinary Studies will hold

demo-lessons for the Term 3 and 4.**

Kumamoto University undergraduate students including the Short-Term

Exchange students can experience the classes of “Multidisciplinary Studies”

of the general education as the following.

Time: 12:00-12:40
Place: The College building
Target students: Kumamoto University students enrolled in undergraduate level

**Graduate school students may audit the classes and are welcome to participate

the demo-lessons.

Kumamoto University International Students Interact with Local High School Students

On Monday July 10, ten international students from Kumamoto University visited Dai-Ni High School, a local high school in Kumamoto which has been designated as a “Super Science High School” by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

The researchers listened as students of Dai-Ni High School presented their research topics in English, and then asked questions about the scientific process and results of each topic.

The high school students and researchers overcame challenging language barriers to enjoy scientific communication in English. Kumamoto University’s Global Youth Campus looks to continue providing opportunities for local exchange between the university’s international students and the young local community.

The Vice-President of Guangxi Normal University (People’s Republic of China) and others paid a courtesy call on Kumamoto University

On June 27th, 2017, Bai Xiaojun, the Vice-President of Guangxi Normal University (People’s Republic of China), and others paid a courtesy call on the Vice-President for International Affairs at Kumamoto University, Kazuki Takashima.

 Guangxi Normal University is located in Guilin in the city of Guangxi. Guangxi Normal University functions as a core university in southern China and is a university that has received high acclaim throughout the country with its history and tradition.
 Students have been accepted for exchange between Kumamoto University and Guangxi Normal University since a cooperative agreement was established in 2005.
 During the discussion, opinions were exchanged on the initiatives of the College of Cross-Cultural and Multidisciplinary Studies at Kumamoto University, along with the current exchange situation and the promotion of future exchanges.  The courtesy call ended harmoniously.

 Subsequently, we discussed the Student Exchange Program in further detail at the personnel level and continued to agree on the development of good relations between our two universities by promoting student exchange in the future.

 Afterward, a roundtable discussion was held with about 6 international students from Guangxi Normal University who are currently studying at Kumamoto University. They discussed their student life at Kumamoto University, and then they underwent a campus tour and deepened their interest in Kumamoto University.

 It is hoped that further promotion of exchange between our two universities will result from this visit.
