Global Kitchen Held at Kumamoto University

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the first Global Kitchen event was held at the lounge of Center for International Education in Kumamoto University.

Global Kitchen is a program designed to promote campus globalization and provide early cross-cultural experiences. International students at the university take on the role of instructors (chefs), introducing traditional dishes from their home countries while preparing them in front of participants. After cooking, everyone enjoys the meal together, fostering interaction and cultural exchange.

For the inaugural event of this year, 26 participants gathered to watch two students from South Korea serve as chefs, demonstrating how to prepare three popular Korean dishes: tteokbokki, jeon (Korean pancakes), and bibimbap.

Throughout the event, students observed the cooking process with great interest, occasionally joining in to help with food preparation. The atmosphere was lively and engaging, making for an enjoyable and interactive experience.

Once the dishes were ready, everyone sat around the table, savoring the freshly made food while actively engaging in conversations and cultural exchange.

Global Kitchen will continue to be held regularly, offering more opportunities for students to connect through food and culture.
